PERFECT WAY TO FEEL THE BLUES – UVA WINES KENYA OFFERS BLUE PORTUGUESE WINE TO EAST AFRICA
When the natural bloom on the grape kick-started fermentation there was a bit of intervention to stop it souring into vinegar and lo, we were gifted with wine.
One of my favourite past times involves sipping wine with some good company. When I was first introduced to rosé it was the pink colour that intrigued my interest and the berry aroma that stole my heart.
Since then my tasting of various wines has yielded very mixed results, but my exploration of wine has been largely rewarding. Now you can imagine how thrilled I was to hear that blue wine was finally available in Kenya courtesy of UVA Wines & Spirits.
Alianca, a firm producing wines across Portugal, launched Casal Mendes blue. The wine is said to be the first ‘blue wine’ made by a Portugese producer. When I received my bottle in a uniquely beautiful branded UVA carrier bag. I was in awe at the site of the blue diamond sky bottle.
Casal Mendes Blue is a wine based flavoured drink. It is originally differential with it’s crystal blue bottle. Casal Mendes Blue is a sweet treat for those looking for a refreshing light wine with a slight effervescence. It is lower on the alcohol than your typical wine.
The 750ml bottle contains 10% alcohol. I would describe it similar to a moscato wine and best served chilled. It is based on the company’s vinho verde (green wine) with natural substances added to give it its differentiating turquoise colour and light sweetness.
