Today we focus our gaze on French women, particularly Parisian women.
What is it about french women that makes them look so cool? When I think of a Parisian, words like “effortless”, “stylish” and “timeless” come to mind.
French women are truly on a league of their own. The rest of us can only do so much to emulate them. But is it really so difficult? Following the basic guidelines they follow is a step to achieving that effortlessly chic look they are known for.
“I look after my skin. For me it’s 90% of my makeup” Caroline de Maigret
Everything starts with a good, healthy looking skin. The goal is to have a healthy complexion which is fresh and natural looking. French women take good care of their skin and complexion. They spend a little more on good quality beauty products. Sun protection is a must in their skin care. A French woman usually uses a day care cream with a high sun protection in it to prevent damage to the skin and early aging.
2. CORRECTING NOT HIDING
The goal is not to hide the skin but correct the flaws, if need be. Foundation is not a must if you already have good skin. A Parisian woman usually uses tinted moisturizer or just leave the skin as it is. The principle is to use make up to highlight your best features and still look like yourself.
3. EYES OR LIPS
Focus on highlighting the eyes or the lips. Doing both is a bit too much. If you go for a power lip keep the eyes neutral. So a dramatic eye look goes well with a neutral lip. To change from a day look to a night look, just change the color of the lips from a light shade to a dark shade. Everything else remains the same. Or if you want to play around with the eyes, you can thicken up the eyeliner and make it a bit dramatic.
4. EYEBROW GROOMING
The shape of the eyebrows is essential to the way the whole face looks. Highlight your best features, but never change the way you look. Groom the single hairs below your eyebrows and in between the brows, but don’t change their natural shape. French women fill in their eyebrows with powder, pencil or a gel, but keep them looking as natural as possible.
If there is anything you can take home from this article is that makeup should enhance your best features and not change the way you actually look.
Tout simplement magnifique!
